TL;DR: GoDaddy advertises a $5.99-a-month website. Nobody pays that. By the time a five-page business site has design, the renewal rate, a security package, and email attached, it runs $670 to $790 a year after year one, plus a care plan to make edits, plus a new quote when it needs a redesign. One of our clients paid over $2,200 in a single year for a five-page site. All the numbers below are GoDaddy's, pulled from their site on September 16, 2026.
The doorway price and the account price
Every GoDaddy plan has two prices. The one in the ad, and the one on your card statement in year two.
The Managed WordPress Basic plan is advertised at $5.99 a month. That's a three-year prepay: you pay $215.64 today, and the same plan renews at $467.64 for the next three years. Deluxe advertises $10.99 and renews at $19.99 a month. The "free domain" is free for one year and then about $20 a year forever.
None of that is hidden, exactly. One hosting review put it well: the renewal price is in the order details, it just doesn't get the same visual prominence as the introductory rate. That sentence is the whole business model.
Hosting doesn't include design
Here's the part that catches new business owners. A $5.99 hosting plan is an empty server. If you want GoDaddy to build the site, that's a separate service with a one-time build fee plus, in their own words, "an annual hosting fee." The price for the five-page Standard build isn't shown on their page; you call for it. Quotes typically run $1,000 to $5,000-plus depending on features, customization, and add-ons like SEO, content, and extra revision rounds, and fully bespoke builds go higher.
The phone call is the point. A price you have to call for is a price that gets delivered by a salesperson, and in our experience helping clients unwind these accounts, the call is where the package grows: the security tier you didn't need, the email you already have elsewhere, the marketing add-on nobody asked about. You called to find out what a five-page site costs. You hang up with a bundle.
And when the site's live and you want to change a phone number? Edits aren't included either. That's the Website Care plan, another subscription.
The add-on stack
This is how a five-page site gets to $2,200 a year. Each line is a real product with a real renewal:
- Business email: $1.99 a mailbox to start, renews at $8.99. Add backup ($1.99) and archiving ($4.99) if they're checked at checkout.
- Website Security: $6.99, $11.99, or $16.99 a month, and those are intro rates.
- SSL: included on some hosting plans; $5.99 to $9.99 a month on a three-year term if it isn't.
- Airo Plus (the AI tools): $59.88 the first year, $95.88 after.
- Maintenance packs: $1.99 to $6.99 a month.
Two things make the stack stick. Services auto-renew, and in February 2025 GoDaddy cut its refund window from 30 days to 7. A June 2026 review roundup notes customers being enrolled in Email Essentials without asking, and one spending 70 minutes across chat and phone on a routine refund.
What a five-page business site actually costs

Three years: roughly $2,650 to $6,900, before a single edit and before the redesign every site eventually needs, which is another build fee.
Two clients, one pattern
The $2,200 year. A client of ours with a five-page website spent a year at GoDaddy. Redesign, hosting, security, maintenance packages: over $2,200 for the year, roughly double what she'd been paying us. When the contract ended, she came back.
The $200 email package. Another client moved their hosting to us. GoDaddy responded by billing them $200 for an email package they had never ordered, for email they don't even have with GoDaddy. They contested it the same day and got the refund. If they'd found it a week later, they wouldn't have.
Neither story is unusual. They're what the table above looks like when it happens to a real business.
What one predictable price looks like instead

How to check your own GoDaddy bill
- Log in, go to Renewals & Billing, and sort by renewal date. Look at the renewal column, not the "you paid" column.
- Count the products. Anything you don't recognize the name of, you probably didn't ask for.
- Add the renewal column up for twelve months. That's your real annual cost.
- If it's more than $1,188 for a small site, you're paying more than a plan that includes the redesign.
